If you saw my previous post, you’ll know that I had gone back to my roots and started writing a story- because I felt like it.

Well- I finished it. It’s currently sitting at just under 60,000 words. It took about two weeks to write it. Now I’m just editing at a leisurely pace, but…
… Now what? 😂
It was definitely a pleasant experience to write something again- especially without having to reference anything. The vast majority of Academic writing is just finding appropriate citations for use in the text, so… without having to do that, it was actually very easy to write that much text. For the record, I think my Ph. D Thesis (including the Bibliography) was around 43,000 words, so… 🤣 But it’s also very easy to make things up and write them down- you can’t compare it to scientific text, where you actually have to back it up with data.
I have no idea what I’ll do with it. I’ve never actually finished a story before- not properly, anyway. I guess I’ll just keep reading back on it and tweaking it each time. I feel that it’s a good snapshot of myself as I am right now, because it showcases my current thoughts and writing style. Needless to say, it’s certainly an improvement on my writing from 2008. 😅
